Under the radiant Cannes sun and with the shimmering Mediterranean as her backdrop, Janhvi Kapoor made a debut to remember at the 78th Cannes Film Festival. Walking the red carpet ahead of the premiere of Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the actress turned heads in a rose-hued pre-draped saree by couturier Tarun Tahiliani—a look that was equal parts timeless and contemporary.

The outfit, a masterclass in texture and silhouette, featured pleated fabric that cascaded effortlessly, echoing the flow of waves behind her. The soft blush tone was perfectly chosen to complement both the coastal setting and Janhvi’s warm-toned skin, creating a luminous, goddess-like aura. The pre-draped format modernized the traditional saree form, giving it the ease and movement suitable for a global red carpet while maintaining its cultural roots.

The ensemble was further elevated with carefully chosen accessories. Layers of classic pearls, anchored by a statement diamond pendant, added vintage sophistication to her neckline, balancing the minimalism of the fabric with opulent detail. Her makeup leaned into a flushed, dewy look—high pink cheekbones, a subtle gloss, and softly defined eyes brought out her natural features without overpowering the elegance of the ensemble.

A sheer dupatta was gracefully pinned back, allowing her face and jewelry to remain center stage, while her hair—tied back in a sleek bun—ensured a clean, polished finish. The ensemble’s detailing included delicate pearl embellishments stitched into the drape, adding dimension without overstatement.

While Janhvi embodied a soft romanticism, her Homebound co-stars brought their own fashion narratives to the carpet. Ishaan Khatter’s bold red velvet suit by Gaurav Gupta spoke of young energy and fearless choices, while Karan Johar’s ivory kurta from Manish Malhotra offered a nod to classic Indian menswear elegance.

Janhvi Kapoor’s Cannes debut wasn’t just a personal milestone—it was a global moment for Indian fashion. Tarun Tahiliani’s design effortlessly merged heritage with modernity, and Janhvi wore it like second skin. The look was more than just fashion—it was storytelling.
